35k Stretch Goal Unlocked - Five More Random Tables
about 5 years ago – Tue, Apr 09, 2019 at 11:02:55 PM

By reaching 35k in funding we can now increase the page count to offer five more tables

From the beginning, we wanted to make sure this book provided gamemasters with lots of resources for filling in all the people, places, and things their PCs bump into while sailing around Vodari or their own setting. The book was always going to have numerous tables covering random encounters, trinkets, weather, sea chases, and more. With five more random tables, we can provide even more stuff to fill in those port visits, sea voyages, and island expeditions you never planned for.

When I was assembling the writing team for this project, one of the first people I wanted to get on the team was Mark Cookman. Mark really knows his sailing and pirates and has created countless interesting and useful tables with things to encounter on seafaring adventures.

As a gamemaster who is currently running a seafaring campaign (in Vodari), I have learned that your players can decide to travel to anywhere at anytime, even at lower levels. Even if you are running a character driven or plot heavy campaign, gameplay can go sandbox suddenly and you'll be left with nothing prepped for what is over the horizon when facing two days days of sea travel. I hope that by having a bunch of random tables in the book, gamemasters will feel excitement versus dread when their players point to somewhere new on the map.

40K and 50k Stretch Goals Added
about 5 years ago – Mon, Apr 08, 2019 at 10:40:07 PM

Thank you to every backer who has supported this project. We couldn't have reached 330% funding without all of you. As we close in on the 35K stretch goal, we decided to add two additional stretch goals. We wanted you to know that we'll continue to work to fit even more great content into the book and beyond in the form of expansion PDFs.

40K - Two More Additional Subclasses

If we reach 40k in funding, we'll add two more additional subclasses to the book. Lots of you have made suggestions on subclasses you'd like to see and we're listening. Extra subclasses require additional writing, artwork and increased page count, but reaching 40k will allow us to add this content to the book.

50K - Under the Seas of Vodari (PDF)

If we can somehow reach 50k in funding during our final push this week, we'll send a PDF copy of Under the Seas of Vodari to all of our backers. Under the Seas of Vodari will provide players and gamemasters with more materials for undersea adventures or even entire aquatic campaigns. Under the Seas of Vodari would be delivered to backers in early 2020.

We're hoping to be able to provide a PDF with the following content:

  • Undersea weapons, armor, and equipment
  • Player options such as subclasses, races, backgrounds, and feats
  • Gazetteer of the aquatic peoples of Vodari including the Mechafish, Vodas, and Aurirn (Sea Dwarves)
  • Undersea NPCs and monsters
  • Rules and advice for gamemasters running aquatic campaigns

If you'd like to see these goals hit, you can help make it happen in the following ways:

1) If you're waiting until later to boost your pledge and pick up some of the add-ons, why don't you just grab an Admiral package and get all of the add-ons and bonus gift (full-size poster, monster stickers, and postcard with a handwritten thank you note).

2) Tell your fellow players and gamemasters about this fully funded Kickstarter campaign which is ending soon.

3) Follow us on social media and share and like our posts

30K Stretch Goal Unlocked - Two New Subclasses Added to Book
about 5 years ago – Fri, Apr 05, 2019 at 10:15:04 PM

The Seas of Vodari Kickstarter is 300% funded with one week to go

Now that this Kickstarter has unlocked the 30K stretch goal, we'll be adding two new subclasses to the book. We don't have a preview or anything solid to share yet. We're still working to finish up the first 12 subclasses. We'd love to hear what swashbuckling subclasses you'd like to see added to the book.

Thank you to all of you who have backed this project. Please remind anyone who might be interested in this book to become a backer so they don't miss out on our Kickstarter exclusive rewards.

Don't forget to follow us on social media.

500 Backers! Seas of Vodari Quickstart Guide (PDF) Unlocked
about 5 years ago – Thu, Apr 04, 2019 at 12:25:33 AM

We've unlocked quite a few stretch goals, but 500 backers was a milestone everyone working on the book was really excited about. Now we can get moving on the Seas of Vodari Quick Start Guide (PDF).

The Quickstart Guide will come out May 2019, just in time for anyone who is looking to start up a seafaring campaign this spring.

The quickstart guide will provide 50+ pages of content to start your voyage on the Seas of Vodari. While it will only be a sample of the content we'll have ready for the final book, we wanted to provide our backers with something before the book comes out. The quickstart content will be more geared towards providing your players with options and equipment, but there will be content for gamemasters too. We'll also be sending out the latest digital world map of Vodari (PDF) with the guide.

What's in the Guide?

Here's a rough table of contents (subject to change):

Chapter 1: Welcome to Vodari

  • Seven Things You Need to Know About Vodari
  • The History of Vodari
  • The Pantheon
  • Life in Vodari (tides, time, weather, currency, education, language, magic)

Chapter 2: A World to Explore

A basic gazetteer the outlines 30+ islands/locations (a fully detailed gazetteer will be in the final book).

Chapter 3: Character Options

We're looking to include the following for this section:

  • 5 Races: Cursed Soul, Voda, Taur, Mechasoul, and Aurin (Sea Dwarves)
  • The Gunslinger Class - which includes 3 subclasses (Musketeer, Arcane Gunmaster, and Pistolero)
  • Subclasses: We are working on subclasses for each official class and will include any that are polished and ready. No hard numbers on that yet.
  • 6 Backgrounds fit for seafaring adventures
  • 3 Feats
  • Substitute Bonds

Chapter 4: Equipment

  • Armor and shields fit for adventuring on the high seas including uniforms and bucklers
  • Weapons including flintlock pistols and muskets
  • Adventuring gear
  • 6 pirate inspired musical instruments
  • Trinket Table (d100)

Appendices

  • Code of the Sea
  • Nautical Terms & Definitions

What's Not in this Guide (Yet)

  • We have 11 chapters, so there's tons of content we're keeping under wraps for now.
  • We're working hard and will likely add more to the guide as we close in on May, but this what I can list  today.

Please Note: Early Access backers will get a copy of the quickstart guide first.
